"Twentieth Century Magic and the Construction of Modern Magical Apparatus with the Introduction of New Experiments.....Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical" by Nevil Monroe Hopkins
1898 First Edition
"A Treatise On The Construction and Introduction of Scientific Magical Apparatus"
This old, hardcover book is 160 pages long. This book provides "new magical experiments, together with working notes for the construction of the necessary apparatus. As a number of very able conjurers have prepared works embracing tricks with cards and experiments dependent upon sleight-of-hand, the present little book is designed primarily to furnish additional field for the amateur conjurer to operate in, as well as constructive occupation if he has a mechanical turn of mind." Includes chapters on "The Magician's Stage and Tables", "Mechanical Magic", "Chemical Magic", "Electrical Magic", and "Equipment and Working Notes". Features 100 black and white illustrations throughout.
Binding is only lightly shaken. Hinges are fine. The covers and spine are moderately rubbed, with some light fraying to the corners and spine ends. Spine gilt is lightly faded. There are no loose, torn or missing pages that I saw. The interior is clean, with the exception of some very light foxing ONLY on the first and last few pages of the book. There is very faint yellowing to some of the page edges, as a natural result of ageing. Leo Behnke has SIGNED the first blank page, and there is a small "LEO" sticker on the inside rear cover. There is a previous owner signature on the inside front cover, and a "Martinka & Co." label has been pasted to the bottom of the title page (see picture below). Overall, this book is in VERY GOOD condition, especially considering it's age of 111 years old! As with any book this old, some ageing and minor imperfections should be expected.
