Meet Napoleon Dynamite (John Heder), a high school student in the rural town of Preston Idaho. He has big red hair, wears moon boots to school, and replies to almost anything with dorky one-liners. Most days, Napoleon spends working on drawings of magical beasts. He lives with his Grandma and his brother Kip (Aaron Ruell), who spends most of the day in chat rooms trying to meet his soul mate. When Grandma leaves, she calls in Uncle Rico (Jon Gries) to stay with them. Uncle Rico is still reliving his glory days as a high school football player who just missed the state championships. He and Kip set up a door-to-door Tupperware selling operation during Uncle Rico's visit. Napoleon is a bit of an outsider, but quickly makes friends with his shy neighbor Deb and an exchange student at school named Pedro (Efren Ramirez). When Pedro decides to run for class president against the most popular girl at school, Napoleon ends up coming through to save the day.
