vintage letterpress printer's block. Made of white metal attached to a hardwood block, this block is for an optical illusion trick in which a man appears to swallow a ball as the viewer moves the image closer to their eyes. Likely dating to the 1940's, the block was made by Walt Kaeber, a well-known illustrator from Baltimore, Maryland, and still bears his company's sticker on the back. The block measures approximately 2-1/2" wide by 1-1/2" and is about 7/8" thick.
