Signed hard back 1st edition 1937, an exhaustive treatise on the Japanese or Egyptian handkerchief box. This collectable book contains many new uses, tricks and ideas together with complete acts, routines and patter. Red leatherette cover with gold foil title stamped on cover. Book is clean and tight with no noticeable damage, save for a small 3/16th inch indentation on the back cover. Normal age/handling related wear. In fantastic condition for being over 77 years old. The interior is clean with no rips or tears and is slightly toned from age. Former owner's name written very samll on inside cover paste down. One similar to this just sold recently at auction for near $250.00 and it wasn't in as good of condition as this one. 8vo 123 numbered pages.

(1899-1984)
Glenn Gravatt became interested in magic as a child growing up in Kansas. At the age of 8 years he was already demonstrating magic for his friends and family. From Kansas, he went to California, where he worked as a newspaper reporter. He wrote " Encyclopedia of Self Working Card Tricks" (2 volumes, 1936 and 1937; later published under the byline of Jean Hugard under the title " Encyclopedia of Card Tricks." In writing the "Jap Box Tricks" in 1937, Gravatt effectively named this box for all time.
