Robert Sherman is one of the unsung heroes of magic and not much is ever said anymore regarding this wonderful magic dealer and inventor. Born in the late 1800s he started the Philadelphia Magic Shop which employed none other than Carl Brema to create much of the excellent metal pieces sold by Robert Sherman. This occurred prior to Carl Brema opening his own magic establishment in the 20s. According to Robert he was the first to develop and market the Chinese Wands which he had learned from the Hang Pang Royal Pekin Troupe. He was one of the first dealers to sell promotional magic and was responsible for the Magic in the Eddie Cantor Magic Club and Howard Thurstons Swift Premium tricks. It was Robert who ran the Martinka Magic shop just prior to its closing when it was under the ownership of Harry Houdini.

The closing of "Sherms" (1968) due to a highway that was built through the shop took Bob with it shortly after in 1969. He joined his old friends, DeLand, Lewis Lyons, Harry Bouton, Thurston, Houdini, and many others. Today he is to be remembered as a magician, manufacturer, inventor, dealer, and a friend.
