This rare hard cover book of magic by Professor Hoffman was published by David McKay of Philidelphia. It has the full title "Hoffman's Tricks - Miscellaneous Conjuring Tricks". There is no year but it dates to the early 1920's. This is an old book and not a reproduction. There are 124 pages with 109 charming black & white illustrations. Tricks covered include The Bottle Imps, To Produce Eggs From a Person's Mouth, The Magic Whistle, The Feast of Lanterns, The Flying Glass of Water, The Vanishing Canary Bird, and many, many more. Good condition with a tight binding and no torn or bent pages. The front end paper has peeled away on one side and the outside green cover has slightly bumped corners and a little wear on the ends of the spine. There are no bad odors.

(1839-1919)
Born in London, England. Pen name of Angelo John Lewis, a barrister (since 1861) and writer. Amateur magician since learning in the early 1860s from a book and then lessons from Hellis (in 1873) and Charlier. In 1873 he undertook a series of articles titled 'Modern Magic' for Routledge's every boy's annual, which launched his career as the most prolific and influential magic author and translator until modern times.
