Comments (Lybrary.com): Richard Hatch's translation of Ottokar Fischer's book "Zauberkünste" on Hofzinser's magic. Fischer also wrote Kartenkünste on Hofzinser's card magic. Describes more than 80 effects created by Hofzinser including more than 100 photos and illustrations. Most effects were designed for use in Hofzinser's salon under close-up conditions, and over half include Hofzinser's original patter used in presentations. The Appendix contains selections from letters which Dr. Hofzinser wrote to two of his students.

Beautiful condition with an inscription from Richard Hatch, the authoritative translator of the original book, "Zauberkünste", German to English, to Roger Crosthwaite. Crosthwaite was inspired at age 7 by Fabian and a noted magician himself. He contributed many tricks to The Gen (1964-1965) and made a name for himself as a card technician. Contains an introduction, the original information from the German edition, new illustrations, annotations and an appendix with letters from Dr. Hofzinser to students. Describes more than 80 effects created by Hofzinser. Includes over 100 photos and illustrations often used in Hofzinser's studio. Includes book test "The Word", card rise maneuver, "The Apotheosis of the Rose"cups-and-balls routine, copper/silver coin transposition, etc. Now in a removable archival protective mylar clear cover. ; Black and white photographs; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 215 pages;

Hofzinser, Johann Nepomuk
(1806-1875)

Born in Vienna, Austria. Learned magic by 1828. Government bureaucrat. Amateur magician, then semi-pro from 1854, then full-time pro until 1865 (when he retired from government job).

Invented Envelope Card (1847), Shell Coin (by 1847), Book Test (early 1850s), Everywhere and Nowhere (c1860), Black Art Table (1872), Slit Glass (by 1875), Spring Balls (by 1875), probably Flags of All Nations (by 1875), probably Flag Pole (by 1875), Card Frame, Card Star, probably Floating Wand, Dancing Cane, Mirror Glass, Silk Casket, and probably the Small Packet Trick. He also invented the rough and smooth principle
